The current rage in NZ Cultural Identity the Hei Tiki is an ancient and precious form of traditional Maori adornment. The first Hei Tiki was gifted to Hine te Iwaiwa - Deity for Childbirth, and became a powerful symbol of family genealogy and the generations to come. Maori believed the Hei Tiki absorbed the mana (power/prestige) of the person who wore it, and was handed from generation to generation.
